BEACH Program — What to Expect
Our BEACH Program is the perfect introduction to the beach for younger kids, starting at age 4. The curriculum was designed by local elementary school teachers to be inclusive, educational, safe, and fun. Kids experience a variety of beach and water activities, games, and educational lessons throughout the week, all designed specifically for their age group.
Activities and lessons
- Age-appropriate and inclusive beach games
- Ocean safety lessons covering rip tides, currents, waves, and more
- Boogie boarding and bodysurfing
- Ecology lessons such as our impact on beaches and oceans
- Meet the Lifeguards
Safety
- Coach ratios: 1:5 for Mini-Groms, 1:6 for Groms (not including CITs or Directors)
- Certified staff: All coaches are CPR and First Aid certified
- Lifeguard proximity: All locations are set up next to a staffed LA County Lifeguard station. Coaches and Lifeguards communicate daily about ocean conditions, and coaches always defer to Lifeguards on safety matters.
- Rashguards: Every participant receives a brightly colored SPF rashguard so they're easily identified by coaches and Lifeguards on the beach and in the water.
- Sunscreen: Reapplication breaks are scheduled multiple times throughout the day. Shade tents are provided on the beach for kids to take a break from sun exposure.
